What if Vin Diesel is Voicing ULTRON in AVENGERS 2 and Not GROOT in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

So Vin Diesel has said he'll do whatever the "f-bomb" he wants to because he's an actor. Or at least this is the (paraphrased) quote making the rounds on the web right now. The actor is not not wrong because he is at the point in his career where he can pick and choose his roles since he is well-established in Hollywood as a guy who can draw big audiences and big box office numbers.

A few months ago, Diesel went public on his Facebook fan page—which has, believe it or not, over 45 million fans following the page—saying he met with Marvel Studios and his fan base along with Marvel fans have been trying to figure out who the actor will be in Marvel's movie universe. After The Avengers came out last year, Diesel posted an image of Vision to his Facebook page and everyone had the same knee-jerk reaction saying he will be Vision in a future Marvel Studios movie.

Then after Diesel's meeting with Marvel executives, he then went to his Facebook page and posted a photo of himself standing in front of the comic book cover of Avengers No. 2. Once again the Internet exploded with rumors and speculation. Heck, even during his Comic-Con panel for his new movie Riddick, the actor was asked about his future with Marvel Studios. A bit inappropriate to ask that question in the Riddick panel but it shows how passionate both Diesel's fans and Marvel Studios' fans are.

Most recently, Diesel posted an image of Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy to his Facebook page and again the web blew up with everyone saying he just confirmed his role of voicing Groot in next summer's Marvel anti-hero hero (Gamora female actor Zoe Saldana's own words to describe it) movie. However, the actor and Marvel have not confirmed anything... yet.

Diesel did tell Hero Complex that he posted the image of Groot to his Facebook page because it inspired him.

"I get inspired by things. So if somebody sends me a book of conceptual art that's the best character design work I've ever seen — I'm not kidding, I see that and I want to be a little cryptic and I want to say something positive. Even if it's as cryptic as an old, dated image of a character."

Based on the actor's quote, above, it sounds like he is definitely playing the misdirection game that Marvel also loves to play in its marketing campaigns for its films. (Cough... the Mandarin... cough!) And Marvel loves that fact Diesel is playing his own misdirection games with his fans too.

"The last thing [Marvel] are is mad. I’m pretty open, but I have been secretive about this.
"So if everybody thinks you’re going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it's interesting. And when something is interesting, it's inspiring."

All of this is beginning to sound like Diesel may not actually be Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. Or he might be... so confusing, right?!

Let's examine all of this for a moment of speculation. Take for instance, he posted that image of Vision last year and what would inspire him about Vision? One guess is to say he might have been approached to voice the villain Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Ultron is Vision's creator and posting a Vision photo is both something inspiring Diesel would post and misdirection while being related to the truth. This could also explain why he took a photo of himself in front of Avengers No. 2 while at Marvel's offices since Ultron is the main baddie in the ensemble sequel.

Finally, you have to consider the fact that the posting an older image of Groot to his Facebook page could be a hint that he has been inspired to voice a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since the actor loves the art of misdirection while possibly being somewhat related to the truth... it has to make any fan really think about the fact he could be voicing Ultron and not Groot.

Who knows when any of this will be confirmed, so until that time comes fans can only guess. And speculate. And theorize.
