X-Men: Days of Future Past loses director Matthew Vaughn, Fox rumored to want Bryan Singer to step in

Fox / Marvel

Marvel Studios has not been making all the headlines today (they have dominated the headlines since releasing the first Iron Man 3 trailer two days ago) but their other comic heroes, who are with other studios, have been. Wolverine has been making waves in cyberspace for most of today, with his solo movie, but now his larger mutant family is making news ... for all the wrong reasons though.

Matthew Vaughn is suddenly out as director of 20th Century Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past, per Deadline. Talk about totally coming out of left field. Wow.

With a release date set for July 18, 2014 and principle photography said to be scheduled for sometime in the first half of 2013, Fox is probably in panic mode.

No exact word on why Vaughn has suddenly bowed out from the director's chair but he is not going to be sitting around twiddling his thumbs either. Deadline is also reporting that Vaughn will direct the big screen comic adaptation of Secret Service, which Fox creative consultant Mark Millar wrote. Is that considered to be a twist seeing as how Millar is overseeing Fox's attempt at creating a cohesive movie universe for their X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises?

Fox is already rumored to be interested in having X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer take over for Vaughn. Singer is definitely not a bad choice since he has directed past X-Men movies and he was a producer for X-Men Origins: First Class as well. Not only that but Singer is rumored to be working very closely with Millar in order to create a singular universe for Fox's Marvel franchises.

In the end, it stinks that Vaughn will not come back for another go with Professor X, Magneto and the other X-Men. Fox executives have to be on the phone frantically trying to land a new director with production for the sequel right around the corner.
