Big news in the galaxy far, far away as The Hollywood Reporter has the exclusive report stating actor Temuera Morrison will return to the Star Wars universe in Season 2 of THE MANDALORIAN.
Only this time he won't be Jango Fett, as he was last seen in STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES with his head getting off'ed by Jedi Master Mace Windu, and this time he will be the older version of his clone son Boba Fett. THR writes:
"Sources say Morrison will play Boba Fett, the famed bounty hunter who first appeared on the big screen in 1980's Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and who seemingly died in 1983's Return of the Jedi as he fell into a sarlacc pit. Actor Jeremy Bulloch portrayed the character in the original trilogy.
"Boba Fett is expected to play just a small role in season two of the series, after the character was teased in the season one episode "The Gunslinger," when a mysterious figure sporting the bounty hunter's trademark spurs approached the apparently lifeless body of Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen)."
This is huge news for all of Star Wars fandom since many have wondered what happened to Boba Fett after falling into the sarlacc pit in STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI. This will finally prove to fans everywhere he did indeed survive his fall into the belly of the beast.
Although, and let's take a ride of speculation for a moment here, Morrison is also the voice of the Republic's Clone Army, too. So there is a possible chance this news could have been intentionally leaked in order to hide the real truth, which could be that Morrison will be the former clone commander Rex seeing as how the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano will reportedly be in Season 2, too, played by actress Rosario Dawson.
Again, this is just my own personal speculation, as well as by many others in online forums and comments right now, but it does have some plausibility seeing how things ended in the finale of the animated STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS series.
THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 debuts on Disney+ this October.
