STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Shatters First Hour Ticket Pre-Sales Besting AVENGERS: ENDGAME

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is the highest grossing movie worldwide ever. And if the first hour of ticket pre-sales for STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER are any indication, Endgame might have some legit competition for that honor.

According to CNBC, last night's ticket pre-sales (in the first hour) for The Rise of Skywalker crushed the pre-sale numbers of Endgame on Atom Tickets. CNBC reports:

“'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' sold 45% more tickets during its first hour of presales on Atom Tickets than 'Avengers: Endgame' did during its first hour earlier this year."

Atom also stated that Endgame was their previous record holder for first hour pre-sales.

What makes this even more impressive is how this record fell even before the final trailer for The Rise of Skywalker debuted on ESPN Monday Night Football, as well as before it went live online. The hype for Episode IX is real, folks.

Whether The Rise of Skywalker has the power to defeat the Avengers at the top of the all-time worldwide box office is unknown, but it also has the benefit of being the conclusion to a 42-year story arc which will get multiple generations of fans interested in seeing its ending. Add in the extended holiday weekend for repeat viewings, and there is a plausible chance of the impossible becoming possible.

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER releases on December 20.
