James Gunn Confirmed to Write and Direct New SUICIDE SQUAD Movie

Back in October, Warner Bros. had brought on James Gunn to write a SUICIDE SQUAD movie. In this report it was stated how it was less a sequel and more of a reimagining of the franchise to set it apart from 2016's financially successful, but critically panned, SUICIDE SQUAD movie. Also, there was a chance Gunn might direct it.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn will in fact write and direct what is being called THE SUICIDE SQUAD. THR writes:

"Sources say that Gunn’s focus is to take the franchise in a new direction with a mostly all-new cast of characters and actors. Sources also say that the project is also very much rooted in Gunn’s vibe, as seen in the Guardians movies."

THE SUICIDE SQUAD is expected to release in theaters on August 6, 2021.
