DEADPOOL 2 Projecting As High As $150 Million Domestic Opening Weekend

While AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR begins opening in U.S. theaters tonight to huge numbers, the next big superhero movie this summer just had its domestic opening weekend prediction come in. According to Deadline, DEADPOOL 2 is projecting as high as a $150 million opening weekend.

At $150 million, it would surpass the $132 million opening DEADPOOL took in just over two years ago. Made on a relatively small budget — when compared to most every other superhero movie offering — of $58 million, the R-rated DEADPOOL proved to be a winning combo of action, comedy, and filth. DEADPOOL 2 looks to continue that trend, however, it will have a slightly higher budget (which has yet to be disclosed at the time this post was published).

The sequel is also acting as a vehicle to grow Fox's Deadpool movie franchise universe as popular Marvel characters Cable (played by Josh Brolin) and Domino (actress Zazie Beetz) are introduced into the Merc With a Mouth's wacky world. DEADPOOL 2 is also setting up Deadpool, Cable, and Domino to team-up in an X-FORCE ensemble movie, which is currently in development.

DEADPOOL 2 releases in the U.S. on May 18.
