Marvel's BLACK PANTHER is Projecting For a $100 – $120 Million Domestic Opening

Marvel Studios is preparing to unleash their next super hero solo movie addition to their ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe when BLACK PANTHER hits U.S. theaters on February 16. According to early box office tracking, via THR, it seems like the studio will have another huge blockbuster hit on their hands.

BLACK PANTHER is projecting for a domestic opening weekend take in the $100 million to $120 million range. Not as much as the record $132 million DEADPOOL opened with in February 2016 — which is the current record for a February domestic opening — but way more than the $85 million second place brought in (FIFTY SHADES OF GREY).

At $100M – $120M, BLACK PANTHER would be in the Top 10 of Marvel Studios openings all-time. IRON MAN sits at No. 9 with $98M, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is currently at No. 8 with $117M, and THOR: RAGNAROK is sitting at No. 7 with $122M.

In its first 24 hours of ticket pre-sales, per Deadline, BLACK PANTHER became Marvel Studios' highest grosser by beating out Fandango's previous Marvel Studios records holder, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. Obviously, this will change once ticket pre-sales for this summer's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR takes place.
