PUNISHER Profile: Get to Know Micro

The Punisher is known to work alone, but Netflix’s version will see a hacker and former NSA analysts on his side.

Sometime in 2017, PUNISHER will be released on Netflix and stars Jon Bernthal in the title role as Frank Castle. Alongside Bernthal will be Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro. Micro is a former employee of the NSA and faked his own death due to secrets that were too dangerous to keep around his family.

During the season finale of DAREDEVIL Season 2, Castle burned down his home. However, before he set the fire, Castle removes a hidden disc that is labeled “MICRO.” We can only assume that Castle wants the secrets Micro is trying to keep from his former family. Judging from the trailer, Micro and Castle have a common enemy and are willing to work together.

Micro, also known as David Lieberman, first appeared in Punisher Vol. 2 Issue No. 4, in November 1987. Micro was raised in New York City and had a natural talent for hacking and computer skills. Unfortunately, Micro’s nephew became a hacker like his Uncle and hacked the Kingpin’s private computer. This ultimately led to his death and Micro set out to find the Punisher so he could make the Kingpin pay. Castle agreed, and Micro became an ally of the Punisher. Micro would launder money, set up safe houses, and keep Castle well supplied on his one-man war against crime.

Micro is a genius with a computer and got a degree in computer science from State University. He often assisted Castle from behind a computer and worked well under pressure. He is a handy engineer and designs weapons and armor for Castle. He is experienced with firearms and can keep track of Castle’s inventory; this includes knives, explosives, vehicles, handhelds, and military grade weapons and technology.

After defeating the Kingpin, Micro started to grow cautious of Castle. When Micro began to notice that Castle was going insane, he locked him up and tried to bring him back to sanity. Just as Castle broke free from Micro’s prison, a corrupt S.H.I.E.L.D. agent blew up the room and Micro was presumed dead.

When Castle found out that Micro was alive, and using drug money to finance assassins, the Punisher killed Micro.

Interestingly enough, Micro has already been name dropped in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically in AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 Episode 7. While trying to decrypt symbols for S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy Johnson tells Phil Coulson that one of her contacts had information. Her contact, Micro, found a crime scene in Rhinebeck, New York with the mysterious symbols they were trying to decrypt. Daisy mentions that Micro is a “crime-scene junkie.”

Hopefully, Daisy’s connection with Micro will be the same character that will be displayed in Netflix’s PUNISHER. Even just a nod would be a fun way of keeping the TV shows connected.

Either way, Netflix has done plenty of justice for Marvel characters and fans expect no less for The Punisher, especially after his debut in DAREDEVILPUNISHER will be released soon in 2017 exclusively on Netflix.
