GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Stands With $732 Million Worldwide So Far; On Track to Surpass Original Next Weekend

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is on track to surpass its predecessor in next weekend's global box office as it currently sits with an estimated $732 million worldwide. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY took in $773 million during its worldwide box office run.

In its third weekend of domestic release, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 took in an estimated $35 million to bring its U.S. total to $301 million. Going into this Memorial Day holiday weekend the sequel should see a good bump in numbers, however, Disney's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES opens this weekend and it will cut into Volume 2's ticket sales.

It appears like GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 will stall out and not become Marvel Studios' fifth $1 billion film worldwide, yet the sequel will be the studios' highest grossing film under $1 billion when its box office run ends.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 is currently in development with writer and director James Gunn once again at the helm.
