Fox's Obsession With the Dark Phoenix Means X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX is Now Coming in November 2018

Fox and producer / writer Simon Kinberg are officially obsessed with the Dark Phoenix comic book story. They seriously must have only a handful of X-Men comic books because instead of adapting other X-Men stories that haven't been seen on the big screen yet, they want to go back and do the Dark Phoenix story again. And the same writer (Kinberg) who wrote the last movie with the Dark Phoenix in it, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, is writing this new one, X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX (November 2, 2018) too.

C'mon now Fox and Kinberg, there are so many other great X-Men stories, yet you feel the need to retell the Dark Phoenix after you just told it in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND?  So you used X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST to "erase" The Last Stand only to go right back for another attempt? Sure, it's a classic and fan favorite story but this feels too soon. Obviously, Kinberg wants to right his wrongs. In fact, Kinberg is in the running to have X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX as his potential directorial debut.

After his terrible script for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, and his failure with The Last Stand, it's hard to get excited for this movie and it is already mirroring what Sony tried to do by re-telling the origin of Spider-Man too soon in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Maybe it will be a better Dark Phoenix story, but how about telling other X-Men stories before going back to this story?
