Sony Takes More Spider-Man Characters Away From the MCU With a BLACK CAT / SILVER SABLE Spin-Off Movie

Last week, news hit that Sony Pictures was developing and had secured an October 2018 release date for a Spider-Man spin-off movie, VENOM. Sadly, the VENOM movie will probably not be based off of or co-exist with SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, which is being established by Marvel Studios within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Today, news from The Hollywood Reporter has also hit stating Sony will be further expanding their Spider-Man spin-off universe based outside of the MCU with a BLACK CAT / SILVER SABLE movie. Sony is hoping for a fall production start date for this female spin-off with a script originally written by Lisa Joy (co-creator of HBO's WESTWORLD) and a new revision currently being worked on by THOR: RAGNAROK writer Christopher Yost.

Silver Sable is a mercenary who is lesser known by the general audience than Black Cat, who is the more popular character and a cat burglar. To read more about Silver Sable on Marvel's character page, click right here. To read more about Black Cat, click right here.

It seems that both VENOM and the BLACK CAT / SILVER SABLE movie will not be based within the MCU. Although, this is really not clear right now but THR notes the following which seems to imply they will have nothing to do with the MCU:

"The spinoffs are not offshoots from the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming but rather projects spun from the overall franchise and based on Sony's Marvel's Spider-Man universe."
