Robert Downey Jr. Says CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is His Kind of Like His IRON MAN 4

Before it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be joining the cast of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR there were rumors — some even fueled by Downey himself — claiming that IRON MAN 4 was in development. That never came true but the inclusion of Tony Stark / Iron Man in Civil War also felt like it was the next best thing instead of another Iron Man sequel.

While speaking with USA Today, Downey said how this movie kind of feels like IRON MAN 4 for him.

"In a way it’s Cap 3 but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes."

It's still unknown whether or not Downey will continue the role of Tony Stark and Iron Man beyond the AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR films, which means it's still unknown if IRON MAN 4 will eventually happen post-Infinity War in Phase 4 and beyond.
