DEADPOOL is the No. 1 X-Men Movie Worldwide and is Already the Top Grossing R-Rated Film of All-Time

The movie that a former 20th Century Fox executive turned current Sony Pictures chair never wanted to make is now the highest grossing X-Men franchise movie worldwide with over $749 million and is officially the biggest R-rated movie worldwide ever. A fitting piece of irony for a movie that a Fox studio exec never had faith in giving the green light for years and years to now absolutely prove him wrong. (The "Hi Tom!" from the test footage leak is referencing said exec.)

DEADPOOL has surpassed Fox's previous No. 1 X-Men movie worldwide X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST ($747M) to become the studios' top X-Men franchise movie ever with $749M.

Not only is DEADPOOL Fox's No. 1 X-Men franchise movie worldwide, it's already claimed the top spot for being the No. 1 R-rated movie release worldwide, passing The Matrix Reloaded ($742M). And China banned the movie for being too mature, so just imagine how much more it would have made if the country didn't have such high mature content standards in place.

Congrats to all involved! Their passion and commitment to doing this movie, and doing it the right way, has paid off more than even a stubborn studio executive could have possible imagined.

DEADPOOL 2 is currently in development with writers Rheet Reese and Paul Wernick penning the sequel's script.
