LEGO Marvel's AVENGERS Video Game Details Revealed by its Game Director

If you've played LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES then you already know how fun that video game is/was. The next LEGO Marvel game is based on the movie franchise and is titled LEGO MARVEL'S AVENGERS.

Game director Arthur Parsons recently spoke with Marvel and spoke about some of the new things that will be found in the video game.

Parsons on if it's an actual sequel to the first LEGO Marvel game:

"Well, it’s not a direct sequel [to 'LEGO Marvel Super Heroes'], but it’s kind of the spiritual successor. It’s the same game directors, same design team, same team at TT. We see it as, like, 'Let’s take everything that worked really well in ‘LEGO Marvel Super Heroes’ and then kind of add to that.' But obviously, while that game is an original story, this is more the movies’ stories in LEGO style, which is kind of where the LEGO games work best."

On improvements to the gameplay and combat system:

"Yeah, so in broad strokes, 'Avengers' is about teaming-up and working together, so we’ve got Avengers 'initiative moves,' which is where any of the Avengers can team-up with another Avenger and sort out the puzzle solutions. There are also Avengers 'combos,' where you can take any Avenger with any other Avenger, and when your power meter is full you can execute smart moves and finishing moves. For example, Hawkeye can shoot Black Widow up in the air and then she guns everyone down. It’s kind of taking that team aspect and running with it. The combat’s also had a big overhaul, and all the animations look a lot slicker and faster."

On if the new game will have more playable characters than in LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES did:

"...[T]he goal is to surpass what we did last time around.
"So there are a lot of really cool characters. There is a whole host of characters just from those two movies—quite a big cast. But then we are going to throw a ton of old, classic stuff at you. It should be really cool; a celebration of Avengers that allows us to really go deep into everything that is cool about Avengers through the ages."

Finally, Parsons teased some of the new character features:

"This time around you will be able to press a button and bring up Tony Stark’s head, and then pick from inside the helmet view all of these different Iron Man suits. We’ve also got three versions of Ultron; we’ve got the “puppet-on-a-string” one, when he was first made and he was all clunky, and then Ultimate Ultron, when he’s more powerful with gravity pushes and all that kind of stuff."
