Michael Fassbender is Interested in Moving Forward as Magneto After X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

So Roger Ebert's quote "Each movie is only as good as its villain" has been used on The Daily SuperHero over the past few weeks, in several posts. It's a quote that will be used and seen a lot because it is highly relevant in super hero films because there are many great villains in the comic book universe that are equally as popular as the heroes they fight. Magneto is one of those villains and one of Marvel's all-time favorite comic book villains.

After X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is released, there are rumors 20th Century Fox's X-Men universe might be rebooted (again). Please don't. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen until the film releases next year but director Bryan Singer has already confirmed it is the closure to the First Class Trilogy. Seriously, please don't reboot.

Actor Jennifer Lawrence has already said she is done as Mystique after X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and Nicholas Hoult has implied he will be done as Beast, too. When X-MEN: FIRST CLASS was casting, all of its main actors were signed to a 3-picture deal. Lawrence and Hoult can (and might) renegotiate to continue their respective roles, but right now that seems unlikely.

However, Michael Fassbender is definitely open to continuing as Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto after X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

“I presume [Jennifer and Nicholas] are talking about contractually. All of us signed on for a three-film deal, so we’ll just wait and see what happens after this," Fassbender told MTV, and he followed this up by saying he's "Always interested in moving forward."

This is great to hear because Fassbender is one of, if not the brightest, performance in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Having him continue his anti-hero villainy is a must while Fox expands their X-Men universe and maybe Magneto can show up in spin-offs and standalone X-Men films outside of the big ensemble movies.

Hopefully, actor James McAvoy is also interested in continuing his role as Charles Xavier beyond X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, which releases on May 27, 2016.

UPDATE 5/14/15: Fassbender further confirmed his interest in re-signing with Fox as Magneto and told Variety: "I will shoot a hundred [X-Men films]. The contract is in three film deals, and [X-MEN: APOCALYPSE] is the last of that. But I’ll be curious to see what happens next."
