ANT-MAN Villain, YELLOWJACKET, Teased by Actor Corey Stoll; Plus New Concept Art

The main villain in Marvel's Ant-Man is Yellowjacket and the man inside the Yellowjacket suit Darren Cross, played by actor Corey Stoll. This is an adapted mash-up of two Marvel comic book universe characters combine into one for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Comic book fans know Yellowjacket to be one of the alter egos of Ant-Man creator Hank Pym — who has many hero aliases including Giant Man, Goliath and at one point he was the Wasp. Some of those same comic book fans are a bit upset that Yellowjacket is being repurposed as a villain in the movie universe but it is happening, regardless.

So what is known about Cross and Yellowjacket in Ant-Man? So far not much, but this is what Stoll said at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con International.

"[Cross] is not a villain in the vein of Thanos or Loki, who are villains that know it. [Cross] is a guy who is not that dissimilar from Michael Douglas' character, Hank Pym. A brilliant scientist, who is not ethically pure. I think a great thing about the whole movie is that everybody in this movie is in those shades of gray a little bit. I think it will be a fun character to create."

It's known that Cross is (or once was) a protégé of Pym and has either taken over Pym Technologies or created his own similar competitive company. Cross has also developed his own version of the shrinking method that Pym created for Ant-Man. Stoll spoke to Entertainment Weekly to tease the Yellowjacket suit a little bit. (Quotes UPDATED.)

“I was this child prodigy that Michael Douglas’ character Hank Pym discovered at an early age,” Stoll says of his character. “He nurtured me and I was part of his technology company. I started to become aware of these rumors of this fabled technology that can shrink people to half an inch while keeping their full-size strength. And I became very obsessed with it and demanded that we move forward. But Pym had sort of buried it for ethical, moral reasons.

"Now, I’ve discovered my own version of that technology and I’m using it for militaristic purposes,” Stoll continues. “I’ve even started to use the technology myself, which has a sort of psychotic effect on people if they use it too much. I can’t get into the details of all the goodies of the Yellowjacket suit but it’s several generations advanced from what Ant-Man has. And then I put it on—and then I am Yellowjacket!”

As you can see in the Yellowjacket concept art below, the suit is quite advanced in appearance compared to the Ant-Man suit. Plus, and this is just observational speculation, but doesn't the helmet have a teeny-tiny resemblance to the Ultron drone heads in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Hmm...

Ant-Man releases in theaters on July 17, 2015.
