Marvel Shows its Humor During L.A. Event With Fake CAPTAIN AMERICA: SERPENT SOCIETY Movie Title

Moviegoers know that Marvel Studios movies have a good amount of humor in them. What fans and media did not know is that when delivering all the titles for their Phase 3 slate of movies, Marvel also had a since of humor in real time.

At their Los Angeles Marvel Event on Tuesday, the studio started off their presentation by announcing the official title for Captain America 3. It was 'Captain America: Serpent Society.' Almost immediately all the grunts and groans about the title could collectively be heard across the globe.

One of my friends asked me, "What the f*** is Serpent Society?" Valid question.

In the comic book universe, the Serpent Society is an group of snake-like villains. Madame Hydra is one of the members and since there is a clear reference to Hydra, fans seemed somewhat content with the title. (You can read more about the Serpent Society by clicking here.)

As more Phase 3 titles were revealed, there was still a sense of letdown on social media as some fans started making fun of Marvel for such a silly movie title. Then, Marvel pulled back the curtain on their joke and revealed the official title of Captain America 3 as 'Captain America: Civil War' and (per reports from the event) the El Capitan Theater and social media platforms exploded with excitement.

"We had this great idea because Civil War's first up, right?" studio head Kevin Feige told the media after the event ended. "But we don't blow our wad on the presentation with Civil War right at the front of it. A guy named Mike Pasciullo had the idea to put Serpent Society on there, and I thought it was awesome and hilarious. A part of me thought, 'Are people going to love Serpent Society and think that'd be really cool?'"

Well played Marvel. You got us good and I applaud you for it.

Captain America: Civil War releases in theaters on May 6, 2016.
