Infinity Stones UPDATE: Scepter LOKI Used in THE AVENGERS is Kinda Sorta Confirmed

UPDATE: Minutes after publishing this post, I found the video teaser for Avengers: Infinity War which kinda sorta confirms the scepter is an Infinity Stone. Go freakin' figure... ugh. Click here to watch that video.

Is it an Infinity Stone or not? This is the ongoing question Marvel fans have wondered and debated over the scepter Thanos gave Loki to use in The Avengers. Obviously, Loki failed and SHIELD took possession of the scepter while Thor took the Tesseract back to Asgard for safekeeping in Odin's vault.

Since SHIELD fell in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Hydra has retained possession of the scepter as seen in the post credits scene for the Cap sequel. But the question of whether or not the scepter is indeed an Infinity Stone still lingers.

Many fans and websites have surmised the scepter could be the Mind Stone, which makes perfect and logical sense because Loki used it to control the minds of Hawkeye, Dr. Erik Selvig and others to do his bidding. Yet, Marvel Studios has remained quiet about the topic while confirming the Tesseract is the Space Stone and the Orb is the Power Stone. The Aether is said to possibly be the Reality Stone but that has not been confirmed by Marvel either.

A new, and quite honestly vague, report states the scepter is an Infinity Stone but in the same sentence they also say it is not the Mind Stone. So it is but it isn't? That's pretty confusing and unclear which is why it should be taken with a grain of salt until Marvel confirms it.

Even though the true identity of the scepter is still unknown — albeit it is reportedly teased in the Avengers: Infinity War teaser shown at the Marvel Event in L.A. — I think the following question needs to be posed about the scepter being a possible Infinity Stone. If it is a Stone, why would Thanos loan it out especially if he wants to collect all the Stones for himself? Seems counterproductive to his plans.

Or does he not know the story of the powerful Infinity Stones? These answers loom and are sure to be answered in the coming slate of Marvel Studios films.

Perhaps the scepter is indeed the Mind Stone or one of the remaining Infinity Stones but I honestly would be let down if this was the case because I can't see Thanos doing something so dumb, like giving something so powerful to anyone else. At least we also know that the colors are not supposed to match up
