Marvel Studios is part of the biggest entertainment company on the planet and Disney needs to shell out some major cash to regain a Marvel property which is currently licensed out to Fox.
It's the Fantastic Four.
Fox has yet to recover from their first two attempts at making a successful Fantastic Four franchise for the big screen. Yet they also understand the part of their licensing deal which says if they do not have this property under some kind of movie development—and within a certain period of time after the last film—then the rights will revert back to Marvel and Disney. This is why a new FF movie is rumored to be in development, on paper, by Fox.
Chronicle director, Josh Trank, has been attached to a reboot of the FF franchise, but Disney needs to open their wallet to get Marvel's first family under their cinematic universe. Especially to have the evil Dr. Doom, who is the Avengers' greatest villain in the comic universe and a needed villain in ANY Avengers movies sequels.
Disney probably won't pay the inflated price tag Fox would ask for, due to the success of The Avengers, but we can all dream. Doom is a must in an Avengers sequel. Make it happen Disney. Please and we won't take no as an answer either.
