Marvel Studios is targeting its next Hawkeye hero for the MCU on the Disney+ streaming series of the same name. Actor Jeremy Renner is already reprising his role as Clint Barton but according to Variety, actress Hailee Steinfeld (BUMBLEBEE) is the studios' target to be Kate Bishop in the show.
This news comes right on the heels of HAWKEYE landing its writer.
What this means is that Steinfeld will become the new Hawkeye and don that mantle as Renner's Barton will pass the torch in a mentor / mentee relationship with Kate Bishop. Just like in the Marvel comic universe.
Variety also writes:
"Starring in the series would likely represent a long-term investment in Steinfeld on Marvel’s part. Given the Disney-owned company’s uncanny ability to build up onscreen franchises around even their lesser-known characters, it is reasonable to assume that the Bishop character would eventually spin off into either her own standalone series or even appear in the MCU."
HAWKEYE is scheduled for a fall 2021 release on Disney+.
