LOGAN Director James Mangold Will Co-Write and Direct a BOBA FETT Star Wars Movie

Back in 2015, Lucasfilm was ready to announce to its Star Wars Celebration fans that BOBA FETT: A STAR WARS STORY (working title) would be produced and released in 2018. Unfortunately, their pick to helm the project, with director Josh Trank, had an unbelievable fallout while filming Fox's FANTASTIC FOUR reboot, which flopped hard in the box office. Lucasfilm cut ties with Trank immediately and put the BOBA FETT movie on hold.

Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that hold is over and the BOBA FETT standalone has found a new helmer in THE WOLVERINE and LOGAN writer/director James Mangold. THR writes:

"It was rumored that Simon Kinberg, the writer-producer behind the X-Men franchise and films such as The Martian, was working on a Boba Fett movie. While Lucasfilm and Disney won’t make any official confirmation, sources say that Mangold will co-write the script with Kinberg, who will also produce the Boba Fett project. Kinberg and Mangold are close, having worked on Logan, the X-Men spinoff that earned high praise last year."
No further information has been provided about where in the timeline of the Star Wars canon this standalone movie will fall.
