Warner Bros. to Reportedly Start Standalone DC Movies Starting With a JOKER Origin Film

You know how Lucasfilm has their "A Star Wars Story" standalone movies? Well, it seems like Warner Bros. wants to copy this in their own way.

Deadline is reporting a standalone JOKER origin movie is in the works. This film will not be a part of the studio's DC Extended Universe and will not feature Jared Leto's Joker — he will reportedly appear in SUICIDE SQUAD 2 and GOTHAM CITY SIRENS. A new and younger actor will be cast in the role of the Clown Prince.

Also being reported is how director Martin Scorsese will serve as a producer for this JOKER movie with director Todd Phillips at the helm and he will co-write it with Scott Silver.

Details are vague right now, since the film project is just starting to be developed, but Deadline writes:

"The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy."

More is sure to come about this JOKER movie sooner than later.
