SPIDER-MAN Director Jon Watts Has His Words Twisted When Saying Nothing About Mile Morales Being in the Reboot

Editorial: Oh man... I really hate when this happens because all it takes is a simple twist of words and a non-story appears and is then sensationalized.

This seems to be the case in a new story published by Yahoo! Movies UK as they spoke with SPIDER-MAN director Jon Watts. They asked him if Miles Morales' Spider-Man could appear in the reboot and here's what Watts is quoted as saying.

“I can’t talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much. We’re still writing the story…we haven’t finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows.”

So what does Yahoo! Movies do? They focus on how Watts didn't deny it and then assume there's an implication that Morales could appear in the next Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Watts said "that will reveal too much." The site also implies this in the headline of their post, which will get everyone talking about how there's a possibility now even though Watts never said or revealed anything. Their headline reads, "Spider-Man Reboot Director Hints Miles Morales Could Appear" ... ugh.

This is a sad tactic used in journalism way too much in today's Digital Age and The Daily SuperHero felt the need to call it out because when a director does not comment on something, that doesn't mean it's still possible. It also means it's just as impossible to happen, too.

To focus on one side of an assumed story and not follow through to discuss the other side of it at the same time is not real journalism. That's "the use of exciting or shocking stories or language at the expense of accuracy, in order to provoke public interest or excitement." Also known as sensationalism defined, via Apple's MacBook dictionary desktop app.

If you don't believe me then go read Yahoo! Movies' post and at no point in their post do they talk about how Morales might not be in the reboot. Read it by clicking here.

Shame on you.
