Loki Was Cut From AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Because it Confused Test Audiences

Tom Hiddleston was supposed to be in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON but only in Thor's dream sequence from his trip to the Norn Cave. The actor spoke about being cut from the sequel to DigitalSpy, and he said it was due to test audience confusion.

“I was part of the dream sequence for the character of Thor, and I shot for a day, enjoyed it very much. Then I received a phone call from Kevin Feige, actually Joss emailed me, basically Kevin said that in test screenings audiences had over-emphasized Loki’s role. So they thought that because I was in it I was controlling Ultron, and that it was imbalancing people’s expectations. So Joss [Whedon] and Kevin [Feige] were like ‘Let’s cut it because it’s confusing people.'”

What's really confusing is how audiences were confused. It was obviously presented as a vision that Thor was having so it seems clear what that scene was. However, the context of the scene was not revealed and if there was any dialogue in it. Possible dialogue could have been the source of test audience confusion. Sadly, as of the publishing of this post, dialogue for this cut scene hasn't been disclosed, so this will remain an unknown until/if any more details are made available.

The last time fans saw Loki he was sitting on the Asgard throne, with Odin nowhere to be seen, at the end of THOR: THE DARK WORLD. The implication is that Loki will be seen again in THOR: RAGNAROK but casting confirmations for the third Thor film won't be revealed until we are into the 2016 calendar year.
