HOLY NEW TV SHOW BATMAN! Fox Green Lights GOTHAM For Development

While Marvel Studios (cough, cough and Disney, cough) were planning on owning the date of September 24 with their DVD and Blu Ray release of Iron Man 3 and the premiere of Marvel's first television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fox and DC Entertainment decided to take some of the spotlight away from Disney and Marvel.

According to Deadline, Fox has green lit a new DC Entertainment TV series called Gotham. But don't get too excited because this does not mark the return of Batman to TV sets in living rooms across the planet, because the Caped Crusader will not be in the show.

"It explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous," Deadline wrote. "In Gotham, Gordon is still a detective with the Gotham City Police Department and has yet to meet Batman, who will not be part of the series."

With the popularity of Smallville in the past and with Arrow currently, DC may have their next big TV show on their hands since fans will be able to see origins of many of their favorite Batman villains, in Gotham. And there's no shortage of Batman villains to use in the new series since Batman has one of the largest rogues gallery of any superhero.
