GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY's Gamora Revealed to be a Villain Then Becomes a Hero

Marvel is really moving in a direction to bring their female characters to the forefront of their movie universe. This is being done with the Black Widow in next year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and this November, Thor fans will see more of Jane Foster and Frigga in Thor: The Dark World. Don't forget that in Avengers: Age of Ultron, writer/director Joss Whedon has already confirmed a new female team addition with the Scarlet Witch.

Phase 2 is shaping up to have more girl power than Phase 1 did, for sure! In an interview with Empire Magazine, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige gives some great insider hints about Guardians of the Galaxy's female member, Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana.

"When we meet Gamora, she's a bad guy working with Ronan and Nebula and Korath, and by extension for Thanos. Gamora doesn't necessarily like doing that anymore, and tries to find a new path for herself. But she has a reputation as the deadliest woman in the galaxy that people aren't greeting her with open arms."

Even though director James Gunn has said Rocket Raccoon is the "heart of the movie," it sounds like Gamora will play a big role in the film as well. According to Feige's comment, Gamora is a villain at the start of the movie and then she decides to join the good guys because she is tired of working for Thanos.

For those who are not familiar with Gamora in the comic universe she's the adopted daughter of Thanos. This might all lead to some interesting family-type drama in Guardians of the Galaxy to go along with all the action and humor.

Guardians of the Galaxy releases in theaters on August 1, 2014.
