Opinion: Transformers is THE Franchise Most Deserving a Full Reboot From Scratch

Hardcore Transformers fans have moaned and groaned ever since director Michael Bay took control of the big screen franchise and took many liberties in changing a universe that is both loved and worshipped by many since the 1980s. The pain will only continue since Bay is moving forward with a fourth, which is supposedly his last, Transformers movie set to release in summer 2014.

Bay has told the media this fourth film will set up future films for whoever takes over and directs a fifth film in the franchise, but let's all be honest in saying whoever directs Transformers after Bay should give it a full blown reboot.

Yes, the word reboot is overused in Hollywood today but Transformers is the franchise that greatly deserves a proper reboot over all other franchises in Hollywood.

The hardcore Transformers fans who have loved the franchise since "Generation 1," in the 1980s, will be the first to tell you they want a reboot. Unfortunately the older, original fans are probably the only one's who are that passionate to want a reboot, too.

It's time to make a movie that uses some original origin concepts straight from the cartoon series and comics. Heck, incorporate some story pieces from the War of Cybertron and upcoming Fall of Cybertron video games as well. Those stories are better than both the last two big screen movie plots combined.

In our opinion, have a reboot start on Cybertron and tell the story of how the Autobots and Decepticons become enemies and go to war with each other—definitely showing a lot of the two sides at war, please. Continue with the story of the Autobots fleeing Cybertron on the Arc and with the Decepticons in hot pursuit. Finish the reboot with the Arc crashing on Earth. The end. Roll credits.

This reboot would be more or less all CG without live action but would tell the origin of the Transformers the right way, and properly. Since the robots are the stars anyway, moviegoers shouldn't care if there is no live-action in it as long as the story is solid.

A second movie, in the rebooted franchise, could focus on the Autobots and Decepticons being trapped on Earth and adapting to being stuck on the planet, along with the Autobots becoming friends with the human race. Then perhaps the writing team can take some liberties from there but still maintain more of the original look of the Transformers.

This story really writes itself since the original origin story is such a great piece of writing, it should be followed as closely as possible.

In the end, this is just one website's opinion and hopefully someone is listening when it's time to find a new director and writing team for a fifth Transformers film and those people reboot this franchise the right way already.
